Welcome To My Blog, and How It Began

Out of date

I realized how woefully out of date I was, musically speaking, when I searched for artists similar to Chvrches and didn’t recognize any of them. I’d been listening to music I already owned for … well … never mind how many years.

I decided to remedy the problem, But I couldn’t find the unrealistic source I wanted which was everything I might possibly like all in one place. I found playlists of every subgenre, decade and geographic location and many places to search for similar artists, but nothing was as complete as what I envisioned.

Creation

So, the only solution was to create it. First, I added albums for every song on a number of Apple’s playlists like Alt Control, Breaking Alternative, New in Singer-Songwriter and Acoustic Chill. Then, I began Listening to albums in alphabetical order, keeping the ones I really liked the entire album and adding similar artists to an already-existing artist list and all of the “albums you might also like” for each.

Everything is in the alternative/indie and folk/singer-songwriter areas. Some might lean a bit toward pop and others a bit toward rock. My taste is far ranging, from Joan Baez to Alice in Chains and anything in between.

Plan

I’ll try to add at least an album a day for your listening pleasure. I do have a few biases that I’ll be upfront about. I pay attention to vocals and lyrics, so instrumental music, with a few exceptions, doesn’t really work for me, and I have a serious penchant for accents. Also, I’m blind, so please excuse the lack of amazing graphics and images; after all, the music is what’s important.

I like these entire albums, and I’ve included links to a video of the first track, so if you like the track, you’ll most likely enjoy the whole album. Also, since they’re in alphabetical order, what’s coming next will be a surprise. Some of the names will be familiar, and others will be new discoveries.

I won’t charge for the blog, but I will ask for donations. Listening, creating posts and updating the library and artist list takes a lot of time. Donations will help me keep the lights on (so to speak) and not have to keep searching for freelance and other types of work. I also want to thank everyone who helped bring this project from my imagination to reality.

If you like music in these areas, I think there’s something for everyone. Enjoy exploring and discovering!
